Syllabus & Technical Philosophy
Tradition with depth.
TDA is grounded in Chang Hun TaeKwon-Do.
We honour the patterns, structure and discipline that define the system.
At the same time, we encourage deeper study – ensuring movement reflects understanding, not imitation.

The Chang Hun syllabus provides a structured technical foundation that has endured across generations.
Its patterns are more than sequences.
They are repositories of principle, timing, balance and intent.
TDA does not seek to alter that foundation.
It seeks to study it thoroughly – so that the art remains timeless rather than mechanical.
Patterns Beyond Performance
Patterns are not choreography. They are structured study.
Within TDA, patterns are explored through:
- Structural alignment
- Transitional mechanics
- Directional control
- Balance and weight distribution
- Close-range application principles
Students are encouraged to look beyond memorisation and ask:
- What is this movement doing?
- Why is this transition placed here?
- How does this apply under pressure?
Understanding gives patterns purpose.
Technical Integrity at Every Grade
Progression through the belt system reflects increasing depth.
Not just increased complexity.
Each stage of progression builds on:
- Foundational structure
- Consistent stance development
- Controlled application
- Technical refinement
Higher grades demonstrate:
- Efficiency of movement
- Control under pressure
- Adaptability within principle
Progression is cumulative.
Depth increases with responsibility.
Study Beyond Surface Movement
Understanding creates confidence.
Confidence creates leadership.
TDA encourages technical study that includes:
- Close-quarters interpretation
- Transitional flow between movements
- Structural pressure application
- Reverse-engineering of pattern sequences
This is not revision.
It is exploration within discipline.
The aim is to ensure that the art remains relevant, purposeful and intelligently practised.
Application Within Structure
Self-defence principles are introduced responsibly and progressively. Structure remains central.
Students are guided through application study in ways that are:
- Age-appropriate
- Technically aligned
- Controlled and supervised
Application is not separated from pattern.
It is derived from it.
The structure of the syllabus ensures that understanding grows alongside physical ability.
Timeless, Not Trend-Driven
TDA values intelligent evolution, but not reactionary change.
The aim of TDA’s technical philosophy is to preserve:
- Traditional structure
- Defined grading progression
- Historical foundation
While encouraging:
- Intelligent study
- Principle-based adaptation
- Responsible development
The art must remain disciplined, but it must also remain alive. Depth ensures that balance.
